Google Docs & Spreadsheets Adds New Features

The Google Docs and Spreadsheets blog announced some new features for that application. Here they are:

  • Add your active docs & spreadsheets list to your Google Personalized Homepage
  • Browse (and revert to) past versions of your spreadsheet
  • Publish spreadsheets as web pages
  • Spreadsheets get smarter with 2 special functions

They also added some cool dynamic content integration such as a "GoogleFinance" function that works with spreadsheets. The function allows you to get stock market quotes and other data updated directly to your spreadsheets. More details on how that works here. Plus they have "GoogleLookup" which is an other function that provides dynamic content from Google;

The GoogleLookup function attempts to answer your question using the web, with information about people, places and things, like the population of Japan, the mass of Jupiter, or the place of birth of Abraham Lincoln.

Keep in mind that, while the GoogleLookup function knows quite a bit, it doesn't know everything. Not all of the formulas that you might try will work, but we encourage you to experiment with the function and see what does work.

I would be careful with GoogleLookup.
