Google Reader Subscribe Bookmarklet Not Working Fully

If you use the bookmarklet feature to subscribe to new blogs or sites via Google Reader, you may have noticed that it does not always allow you to subscribe to that content.

Google Reader Guide (Graham) posted in a Google Groups thread yesterday that the bookmarklet feature works only when you are viewing the actual feed but not when you are viewing the main site URL. He said:

Right now it looks like the "Subscribe" bookmarklet works when you're viewing a feed, but not when you're viewing a web page (even if that page contains a feed). We're looking into it.

I personally tried it out on a few sites this morning and it seemed to work for me on my Safari browser.

There are additional reports that the "Add to Google Reader" buttons found on some sites have not worked for a day or so. A Google Groups thread has Mahi, a Google Reader representative explaining:

Sorry about this. /reader/preview/*/feed/... is an old preview URL that we unintentionally broke. A fix should be in the next Reader release, but you may also want to update it to /reader/view/... (if you're getting at via a tool or extension, you may want to contact its author).

But a day later it was resolved.

Forum discussion at Google Groups.

Update: This was fixed on January 9th, as per Graham's post.
