Google announced they have been working on auto-driving cars for a while now and they hope this technology becomes available to real cars on the road in the future. The news was all over the Internet yesterday about this announcement.
The most detailed and revealing article was at the NY Times piece which had a digram and video. Here they are:
Personally, I would love to have one of these cars. Not for the safety per-say but I know I can work while commuting to a meeting and so on. I wouldn't stress about leaving on time, cause I can work from the road. I have no preference in Google building it out or someone else, in fact, I might prefer if someone else do it. Why? One line, "This is all made possible by Google's data centers, which can process the enormous amounts of information gathered by our cars when mapping their terrain." That being said, if anyone tracked me around the world, it might as well be Google.
Are you excited for the possibilities or prefer to drive your own car?
