- Google Instant Page Previews Wreaking Havoc On Web Analytics
Google officially launched Instant Previews earlier this month and we are now seeing major issues from it. A Google Analytics Help thread and WebmasterWorld thread both have reports of the Instant Previews confusing the Google Analytics and other web analytics tracking. The issue seems to be that when someone initiates an instant preview on the Google search results, some of the times, Google will do an "on-demand" fetch of the page, executing the JavaScript many - Google Image Search Update: November 2010
A WebmasterWorld thread is reporting a Google Image Search update of some kind. It appears there was an image search index update. mssfldt reported in the forums the update started about mid-November. He keeps track of about 20 sites to track updates on images. We also have some other confirmations from other members. The last Google image search update I covered was in June. Hitwise released a report saying Facebook.com generates nearly 1 in 4 page views in the US. It well surpassed Google in terms of in visits and greatly surpassed Google in terms of "page views." Hitwise said, "The market share of page views for Facebook.com was 24.27% last week, 3.8x the volume of the 2nd ranked website YouTube.com with 6.93%." Google's volume in page views was 5.32%, but keep in mind, Google owns YouTube. A WebmasterWorld - Another Major Quality Score Bug Impacted Google AdWords Advertisers
Less than a month ago, there was a major AdWords Quality Score reporting bug which made many advertisers get extremely nervous. The reports showing ones quality score was showing it to be much lower than the true score. This may have caused some to change their ads or boost their cost per click prices, to counter the report.
