Google Sitemaps Bug Squashed Over Thanksgiving

Nov 26, 2010 - 7:43 am 0 by

On the eve of Thanksgiving, several complaints started popping up in the Google Webmaster Help forums. The complaints were that when you viewed the status of your XML Sitemap in Google Webmaster Tools, Google reported an error.

The specific error read:

Hm. Something isn't right. We're checking into it now.

Please let us know in our Help Forum.

It isn't clear if this was just a reporting glitch or a larger bug but the issue was resolved on Thanksgiving day before most SEOs and Webmasters had a chance to even complain.

Google Product Manager, Christina Chen replied to the various issues Wednesday night. By Thursday morning the issue was fixed.

Google's JohnMu confirmed the issue was resolved that morning, saying:

Hi everyone - yes, this should be resolved now! Thanks for posting & thanks for your patience.
