Dawn Anderson

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Dawn Anderson, 49 years old, lives with her husband and pooch in Manchester, UK - her children are all grown and have left the nest. It feels like she has been part of the SEO/SEM industry for ages. Just in the past couple of years, Dawn has become a huge and valuable contributor to the space. She is an academic, just recently completing her masters in Digital Marketing. She has a deep passion for understand the details behind how things work, specifically in search. She gives very technical explanations of search, is able to pinpoint those explanations to scientific papers and thus has a deeper insight into how and why things work the way they do in search.

With this, she has and still does, speak around the world on technical SEO topics. She has spoken at State of Search, Brighton SEO, Ungagged, MozCon, SMX and other events just in the past year or so. She has also contributed her content and articles to tons of industry web sites, and those articles have, like I said, really deep insights that we don't really get from most other SEO writers.

The big plus also is that she is super active on Twitter and Facebook, constantly sharing little nuggets she picks up along the way. She is also seeking the truth, asking Googlers for more details on why things work they way they do. Which helps her communicate to the community, how Google indexes, ranks and understands your web pages.

The person who nominated her asked to be anonymous but she did write:

Unashamedly technical, always thought provoking and really clever. I learn something new every time I hear one of Dawn's presentations, and it pushes me to learn more and understand more about why the technical side of SEO is so crucial. Generous with knowledge, a good laugh, and plenty of Pomeranians.

Dawn Anderson Bio: Digital Marketing strategist and international SEO consultant. University lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University. Dawn runs Move It Marketing a digital marketing and SEO agency in Manchester, UK, along with lecturing on marketing analytics, digital strategy and search marketing for Manchester Metropolitan University Business School and Manchester Metropolitan Univeristy International Fashion Promotion School. She is also a trainer and speaks regularly at UK wide and international SEO conferences including State of Search, Brighton SEO, Ungagged, MozCon, SMX

Favorite thing about the SEO community? I can talk about spiders and robots with them in real life without them thinking I'm crazy. They talk my language and are willing to share their knowledge and love doing so.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Be cynical, critical and don't follow the herd without question.

Favorite things in general? My favourite dog - pomeranian, of course. Favourite colour - purple. Favourite food - full English breakfast or roast chicken dinner with Yorkshire puddings of course (I'm from the North of the UK so this is standard). Favourite thing to do - trips to the UK Lake District with my hubby and pooch Bert, digging into the depths of Google Scholar, dinners with friends and family and cruises.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? Being a digger (a rooter of information), a tester, a miner, a questioner. Sharing useful information on what I learn and exploring further than I probably should with all things SEO and encouraging others to do the same.

You can learn more about Dawn on her company site, check out her presentations on SlideShare, connect with her on LinkedIn and follow her on Twitter.
