Google just announced that they are now adding badges to the image search results on Google app for Android and mobile web. These badges describe an image if it is a recipe, video, product of animated GIF. This way before you click on it, you know what more goodies to expect.
Here is a GIF of it in action:
The Google Webmaster blog explains that this is powered off of structured data such as recipe markup, product markup, and video markup. With GIFs, Google does magic and is able to do that all by itself.
Google added, "while we can't guarantee that badges will always be shown, adding the recommended structured data fields in addition to the required fields may increase the chance of adding a badge to your image search results."
Also the structured data testing tool and rich card report can all help you get your markup up to speed of this, if you care.
Badger, badger, badger! Better targeted users for you from Image Search!https://t.co/bRyIqKAQhp
