Via Gary Illyes of Google on Twitter, Google has updated their developer documents on the breadcrumb schema markup to show how to handle multiple breadcrumb trails.

Supposedly this was a large request and SEOs, webmasters and coders were unsure how to implement this.
Now the developer documents explain those details.
