Google is sunsetting the Google Dance, well, at least the name Google Dance. Instead, Google is going to rename the Google Dance to something else and continue to host "dozens" of events like it across the world - like they have been doing in the past year or so.
Gary Illyes from Google, who has been at most, if not all of these new events, said on Twitter "To go ahead of mistranslations, #GoogleDanceOsaka was the last Google Dance, not just in Japan, but worldwide." "Going forward, while we'll have dozens of similar @googlewmc events, the name will be different," he added. What will it be renamed to? Some think "Fred," but Google said "Stay tuned for more information on our official channels!"
As you know, Google has been hosting smaller Google Dance events around the world. Google Dance events started at their headquarters around the SES conference in the early 2000s. Google hosted webmasters and advertisers at their home as a token of appreciation for the content they build and the ad dollars they spend with AdWords. That ended in 2004 and then came back in 2016 and 2017. It was super awesome for webmaster relations but in 2018, Google did not host the Google Dance at their headquarters. They began doing smaller events in Singapore, Zurich, Osaka, Tokyo and other places.
But it won't be named the Google Dance anymore, at least going forward. But Google said they will be having these events under a new name in the future, many of them, in many regions around the world. Maybe one in NYC?
