On Friday, there were tons of Google Glass Explorers eagerly awaiting the XE14 software update from Google. There was a private thread with hundreds of posts asking where is the update. Google alluded there would be an update in February, but it never came. Later that evening, Google's Teresa Zazenski confirmed there would be no February Google Glass software update in another Google Glass Explorer private thread.
I of course wanted to mess with people, so while people were waiting for XE14, I mocked up something in photoshop and posted it in the Google+ Explorer group:
Not everyone enjoyed my humor but it did help get attention and maybe help get Google to go on record about where the XE14 update was.
Google told us the reason they didn't release an update was because the next update is big and just not ready yet. They said:
We’re still moving extremely quickly. Since the first Explorers got their Glass less than a year ago, we’ve already been through eight updates – nine if you count last year’s hardware revision. The pace isn’t changing and we're still committed to regular updates for Glass – even if they’re not monthly anymore, because bigger updates just take more time. In fact, we’re working to move Glass from Ice Cream Sandwich to Kit Kat to make the Glass experience smoother and just plain better. This change will make it easier for us to bring you more useful updates and it’s something we’re really excited about. Developers, we know you’re gonna be excited, too. But it’s also something that we don’t want to send to you all until it’s just right.
Okay, so now we are expecting something big - very big. Hope we are not let down, again.
