Today on the Google home page is a special Doodle, aka Google Logo, for Inge Lehmann on her 127th birthday. She is most known for her work in observing earthquakes, known as Seismology, the scientific study of earthquakes. It is just bad timing for the logo, since Nepal is being hammered by ongoing earthquakes taking the lives of thousands of people.
That being said, bringing awareness to the science and the devastation earthquakes can have on people is important, and timing for the logo is good in that way.

Google posted a note about this on the Doodle page:
Editor’s note: News of a second major earthquake within a short time in Nepal today provides a sad context to this post -- and reminds us of the importance of science in predicting earthquakes so that more lives can be saved.
Inge Legmann was born on May 13, 1888 in Copenhagen, Denmark and lived a long life dying at the age of 104 on February 21, 1993 also in Copenhagen, Denmark.
