Google has yet to confirm the July 11/12 search ranking update that we reported on, but it does seem to have some legs. Meaning, the chatter has 100% spiked up a lot after the weekend and it seems to be related to a core update. But again, Google has not confirmed this update.
In fact, it seems like there was another "tremor" yesterday - where the ranking fluctuations again went a bit insane.
Without Google confirming it, I am going to assume that this was not a massive core update but maybe a small update resulting in some sort of tremor. Maybe this was a small update to the June 2019 core update? Maybe not?
The WebmasterWorld chatter is right now pretty high:
I'll be the obvious guy here for a moment – The only logical explanation as to why Google has not yet confirmed this update was most likely due to the fact that they did not anticipate it to be large enough initially to where many webmasters would take notice. They probably thought it would be a daily ongoing update that would be classified as one of those that they can just say “every day we release updates to improve search”. Just my opinion, though.
Something major is brewing right now, once again… Seeing massive fluctuations
Is anyone else missing pages from the SERPs today? One of my pages has dropped out of google overnight. Reminding me of the bug a couple of months ago
The sites which dropped in June have seen more drops after July update. I dropped too and other sites that were hit have also experienced a decline.I was expecting recovery and Google did the opposite.
Here are some tweets from Glenn Gabe and some others on this:
More evidence of an algo update starting on 7/13. In addition to mercola & greenmedinfo (tweeted earlier), here is https://t.co/7WD38xfXDk. Looks like they took a big hit in search visibility starting at the same time (7/13). Will keep checking & post more details. @rustybrick pic.twitter.com/kQgHUiH7Ip

Notice any similarities here?... I'm seeing a number of sites that were negatively impacted during the June core update drop more starting on 7/13. Not all match that pattern, but there are a number that show the same type of drop after a June drop. I'll keep digging. Stay tuned. pic.twitter.com/5pBb0X6dKj

We're getting requests for help from sites hit really hard on July 13.

I'm speaking today at #MozCon, so this week's newsletter will not have a thorough analysis just yet.
But I agree with Glenn. Something big definitely happened. https://t.co/q3jyEntkkz
I dropped a bit during the June update, now I'm gaining a lot again starting the 13th, each day a bit more, today's going to be a new high for a while. Note that I did file a disavow + wrote about 30 articles in-between.

This one particular site has taken massive hits with Mar 12, Jun 3/4 - now Jul 12/13

I can tell you it is not pretty for this site owner to see organic traffic in search console - massacre of the clicks pic.twitter.com/s04o460VgE
At least that shows a steady decline. My accounts are all over the place, check this one out. Something has definitely rolled out, but when will we get confirmation @searchliaison pic.twitter.com/Gmm7gwObJE

Sudden increase in organic traffic since 13th July. Any algorithm change? @dannysullivan @JohnMu @Marie_Haynes pic.twitter.com/YU47kM4pTp

This is how John Mueller of Google reacted to this:
Sorry 🤷

That is all we have from Google on this possible update.
Some of the tools showed some fluctuations again yesterday, July 16th, so maybe more tremors? There is additional chatter in the WebmasterWorld forums and the tracking tools are showing signs of an update as well.
The WebmasterWorld Forums has some new chatter in the past 24 hours:
I actually saw an increase in traffic yesterday and day before , with an increase in about 25%. I am also seeing lots of serp fluctuations today
Yes, something not talked about much here is the number of pages indexed that are fluctuating for many sites. I have one site that has a high of 7200 pages indexed and a current low of only 4210. Massive flux over the past month.
And much more.
Here are the tracking tools:
