About a month ago, Google dropped the local carousel and switched to a three-pack local layout in the Google search results.
It is a much clearer look and I personally always disliked the carousel.
That being said, Mike Ramsey published a quick heat map study on the new layout. Asking users to perform to queries and then watching their eyes and clicks to see where they went.
The first test resulted in:
- Total Clicks: 100
- PPC: 22%
- Local Stack: 25%
- Organic: 53%
- Total Clicks: 100
- PPC: 0% (There were no ads)
- Local: 73%
- Organic: 27%
Not enough testing was done to produce anything significant yet, but you can read more about it over here.
