Today on Google worldwide is a special logo for the renowned archaeologist and anthropologist, Mary Leakey. Today is her 100th birthday and Google wants to pay tribute to her contributions to society with this special Google Doodle:
Mary Leakey was born today, a hundred years ago, in London, England and died at the age of 83 in Kenya, Africa on December 9, 1996.
Mary is most well known for her discovery of the first fossilized Proconsul skull, an extinct ape now believed to be ancestral to humans. She spent much of her career working side by side with her husband Louis Leakey. Louis died at a younger age in October 1972.
