I know some of you thought I was crazy when I said two days ago I started seeing the mobile friendly algorithm go live and it was shifting back and forth from one hour to the next on my mobile device. I know, I was only checking five or so queries, but the results were obviously changing in the palm of my hand.
Google's John Mueller confirmed this morning in a Google+ hangout at 4:40 into the video that the roll out has begun and is even completely rolled out in some of the Google data centers.
So depending on when you search, where you search, you might be hitting a data center where the mobile friendly algorithm is kicked in. This explains why I saw the fluctuations and still do today. John said it can take a week to a week and half to roll out to all Google data centers completely but it is 100% rolling out now and some of you should see the results live.
Here is the video embed followed by the transcript:
It’s definitely rolling out. I know in some of the data centers its already rolled out completely. So that is something where I think you will probably see that change over the course of a week, maybe a week and a half - something like that. From the first day to the next day, I don’t think you’ll see a big change. But if you compare last week to next week, then you should see a big change.
And I’ve seen some blog posts out there have noticed it’s different, and tried to document the difference between the desktop results and new mobile results. So there are definitely people noticing it.
I know many of the tracking tools are noticing it as well and even webmasters are claiming they are seeing it as well.
