Over the past few months, there have been several complaints in the Google News Help forums from Google News publishers complaining that Google is not sending them as much traffic as they once did.
It seems the reason comes from when Google launched the In The News box back in October of last year, where not just Google News Publishers are showing up there anymore but anyone really can show up in that In The News box. In November, that feature expanded globally and more and more publishers are upset with the feature.
One publisher wrote:
I have been publishing content on two websites for the last 4 years. We have seen that over the last 3 months, there is a substantial decline in traffic we receive from Google News.
Another said:
Ever since January 6th, our website has been blocked from the google "in the news" one box on the main search page.
Truth is, they are both in the Google News index, they both can and would show up in the In The News box, but now they are competing with a larger web site base.
Google has told us that unfortunately news publishers do not get priority in that In The News box.
Are you in Google News, have you seen this trend?
