Yesterday at Google I/O, the show was really mostly about hardware and non directly related search items. There was one topic on search, Google Now.
Google Now is likely the future of Google's mobile search experience. It provides you with search results and answers before you even need them. Google said, "Google Now gets you just the right information at just the right time."
Greg Sterling explained the mobile search experience:
- An improved Google search UI (incorporating the Knowledge Graph for more structured results)
- A Siri-like female voice to read you search results (in some circumstances)
- Google Now (a capability that takes your calendar, location and other data inputs and gives you information with no formal query prompting)
Google Now displays "cards" of information when you need them. For example, when is your next calendar appointment, what are directions that avoid traffic to that appointment, what is the menu of the restaurant you are sitting in, the list goes on.
