John Mueller from Google was quoted as saying at SMX Milan last week that his number one piece of SEO advice is to be consistent. This is from a post on Twitter from Jason White.

Of course, that might have to do with a lot of things including a consistent and predictable user interface, navigation, site flow, content publishing agenda, code output and much more. Consistency can help in many ways, from GoogleBot crawling your site, to users being able to quickly know how to navigate your site.

If anyone knows me, consistency is golden for me. I am incredibly into routine, sticking to it, and being predictable. That goes well with my readers, because they know what to expect from this site. If I ever go off topic, which is rare, they call me out for it. If I am late to post stories, they call me out for it.

So what did John mean by consistency? Eric Ward mocked it a bit and John responded, which means he did not deny saying the original comment at SMX:

I do agree, consistency is important with anything you do in life, including SEO.
