This may be obvious to most of you, but Google's John Mueller was asked if profile links, links in forums or social profiles if those links are enough to get you to rank in Google Search. John said no and left it at that, which is probably the best way to answer it.
The question was "Does profile creation/profile links work?" "This is a technique used by many SEOs to build backlinks by creating profiles on every site and placing their website's link. What does Google think of this?" Then some SEO responded yes, saying "Profile links are good enough to develop the authority and ranking if you keep them active and post something on those profiles at least once a week."
Then John replied to that saying "no."

John Mueller said something similar a few years ago saying dofollow profile links are not worth signing up for or trying to obtain.
