Today would be the 64th birthday of Sally Ride, the first American female Astronaut who was in space. She was born on May 26, 1951 in Los Angeles, California and joined NASA in 1978 and was the first American woman in space in 1983, and the youngest American in space to this date. She died at the young age of 61 on July 23, 2012 from Pancreatic cancer.
She spent about 14 days in Space in 1983. To remember her accomplishments, Google has gone all out at created 5 different animated Google Doodles. The Doodler was animator Nate Swinehart.
