At a point, I really do feel bad for continually reporting Google updates but the Google search results over the past couple weeks have not been all that stable - which I guess is what Google talks about when they say 500 updates per year. But this is different from what SEOs, webmasters and I am use to.
The ongoing WebmasterWorld thread and the comments I am seeing on this site related to my posts suggest there was an update of some sorts this morning. Some are saying Penguin related, some are saying Panda, and some are saying whatever we saw around January 17th is being reversed.
I am not sure what it is, it is extremely early in the reports but here are some comments from WebmasterWorld:
Up about 50% on a Pandalised site since 21st, seems like things have reverted back again for us today though.
Seeing quite bad (further) drops for my penguin affected site this morning. In fact, seeing a large shake up of SERPs all round.
Yep, shake up here too. Lots of gains from Panda still holding but only on lower traffic terms so, whatever this is, I'd say it started on the high traffic phrases and is working its' way down.
Wow, my UK results are different today. Long tail seems fine, this is affecting 1-2 keyword searches.Something doesn't look right to me...
We just had a Panda refresh on January 22nd, can Google be fixing something or pushing out a new update right now? Honestly, I am afraid to keep asking Google. :)
Update: It does seem MOZcast agrees, they are reporting major shifts in Google last night:
