A Google Webmaster Help thread has Google's John Mueller recommending to one webmaster that it might be a good idea to verify your web site within Google Search Console more than just one way.

Most people use the file upload method, but if Google cannot access the file when they randomly check to see if they should verify the site - then the verification status can be lost. I should add, this is rare but does happen.

So John Mueller recommended to use two or more methods to verify your site with Google Search Console. Google offers several verification methods including:

  • HTML file upload
  • Domain name provider
  • HTML tag
  • Google Analytics tracking code
  • Google Tag Manager container snippet
  • Google Sites
  • Blogger

John Mueller wrote:

One thing you can also do is verify using multiple methods at the same time (eg, file & DNS). This would make the verification status more fail-safe, since both of those methods would need to break for the status to fall.

Not a bad idea, don't you think?
