Jason Dodge

This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.

Jason Dodge is 36 years old and lives with his wife and two children in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They love spending time with the family, exploring the outdoors and experiencing all of the great seasons they have in Michigan. Jason has been in the SEO/SEM space since 2005 or so, so he has a lot of experience and history.

He is a frequent speaker at local SEM events and marketing events. He speaks at local universities as well. He also launched a podcaster, one of the few in our space, sharing his knowledge there. And he is very active on Twitter and other social networks sharing his advice and tips.

Andy Halliday nominated Jason and wrote:

I met Jason quite a few years ago at a conference and we got chatting and stayed connected.

He is a very knowledgeable technical SEO person who is always willing to share his knowledge and skills both with the community but more importantly with small and medium size business owners in his hometown. He puts in a lot of effort in order to raise the local standards of good SEO practice.

He is always speaking at local events and conferences to pass on knowledge and skills and even helps organises a few himself.

In 2017 he launched his own podcast to help spread the message a little further.

Even though we live on the opposite sides of the pond, whenever I have any technical queries that I can't quite figure out, he is always the first person I reach out to see if he knows what is the issue.

On a personal side of things, he is just a great guy to grab a beer and a bite to eat with after a conference, whether the talk is work or not, it's always a great evening.

Jason Dodge Bio: Jason Dodge is the founder of BlackTruck Media + Marketing a Michigan-based search marketing firm, where he works to ensure clients' business objectives and goals are translated into online marketing strategies that work. His passion for the ever-evolving world of search has only grown over his 15-plus years in the industry, eventually caving to his entrepreneurial nature and founding BlackTruck in 2009. Jason was named one of Grand Rapids' 40 Under Forty Business Leaders. He holds a position on the American Marketing Association of West Michigan executive board and recently appointed to the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre Board of Directors.

Favorite thing about the SEM community? My favorite thing about the SEO community is how welcoming it is. I remember early on in my career how inviting other search professionals were and the different conversations you find yourself in that lead to a great deal of knowledge sharing. It's very much a common theme that we're all in this together and a single individual doesn't have all the answers.

One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? My mantra is very much "don't freak out." Algorithms are going to constantly pivot and that is completely out of our control. Never hedge your bets on just one tactic but proceed with a good honest approach and look for longterm success.

Favorite things in general? Aside from steering the ship here at BlackTruck I'm a bit of a gearhead and active outdoor enthusiast. My passions are pre WWII era cars and am currently working on a '38 Ford. I am a lifelong skier and try to get out as much as possible, often documenting those adventures on my site miskireport.com.

What you want to be known for in the SEO space? My passion for the SEO industry and honest approach toward search. I hope to continue the path of sharing that knowledge with others and enjoy giving back by educating future marketing and communications professionals at local universities so they have an opportunity to better understand search and how it impacts our everyday lives.
