This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.
John Doherty, 33 years old, lives with his wife in Denver, Colorado, has worked a many big brand name companies as their lead SEO and now has started his own business that helps get more business. He is one of those really detailed technical SEOs that really is able to see the whole picture of a marketing strategy all the way down to implementation and success.
John is always on Twitter and other social networks helping folks out in the SEO space and beyond. He gravitates more towards the more coding aspects of SEO, which is why I personally enjoy following him on Twitter.
He had an anonymous nomination, who wrote it plain and simple:
One of the nicest person in the industry. Always ready to help, share knowledge.
That is dead on - and honestly, the most important attributes to me in this industry. John is, indeed, always there to help with a smile, asking nothing in return.
John Doherty Bio: John Doherty is the founder of GetCredo.com, where he helps businesses put together the right digital marketing project and get connected with the right marketing providers for their needs. He has almost a decade of SEO and digital marketing experience across agencies and inhouse, most notably Distilled and Zillow Group.
Favorite thing about the SEO community? There are so many helpful and giving people in the SEO community. While it can be easy to focus on the bad apples, I have never found a community that cares as much as the SEO community when push comes to shove.
One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Stop chasing the algorithm and start building real friendships in the community. Those real friendships are what will move businesses forward, not Google's algorithm.
Favorite things in general? My favorite things to do outside of work are traveling, rock climbing, skiing, and backpacking/camping. Over the last year I have also started making kombucha at home and learning how to build a community of people in a location.
What you want to be known for in the SEO space? I want to be known for constantly trying to level up the community, bring good business practices into the industry, and helping people grow their consulting/agency businesses through quality projects and information.
You can learn more about John at his company site or personal site, also make sure to watch him on Twitter.
