So we have a dozen or so Google web search rank checking tools that tell us if they pick up on Google algorithm or ranking fluctuations. But we don't have much when it comes to local ranking changes. BrightLocal has just released a tool it named Local RankFlux that does just that.
It is similar to Mozcast, but this is designed for local. BrightLocal wrote "Local RankFlux is the only ranking fluctuation monitoring tool for local search. We track daily ranking movements across 14,000+ keywords to measure volatility and identify suspected algorithm updates. I reported on a local ranking update from Google on August 6th - so similar timing.
It is hard to say how accurate this tool is. Local ranking fluctuations are super hard to track because of all the places you need to check by region. It is also something hard to follow the chatter on unless something super big happened.
But this tool is trying to do it.
Joy Hawkins said in the Local Search Forums, "I've been waiting for a long time for a tool like this. BrightLocal just launched the first and only tool (to my knowledge) that tracks changes in Local SERPs. It tracks 28 keywords x 26 industries x 20 cities = 14,560 keywords (560 per industry) and lets you know when there are lots of variations."
