This is part of the say something nice about an SEO/SEM series - feel free to nominate someone over here.
Marc Poirer is 48 years old, lives in the Montreal, Canada with his wife and twins who will be almost 4 years old soon. Marc hasn't done much SEO in the past several years but he is super involved in paid search and is the CEO of a well respected and large agency named Acquisio. Marc is constantly sharing new things he learns, not just on PPC and SEM but also around machine learning, AI, cognitive science and statistics and more.
Marc also writes articles, speaks at events and shares on social media. He is super smart, loves to share his knowledge with others and has helped the industry grow in smarts, sharing, financially and much more.
Gary Steel nominated Marc and wrote:
Marc founded Acquisio--the best SEM platform in the world. Thanks to Acquisio I have a foundation from which my business operates. Marc is also widely regarded as one of the top Pay Per Click marketers in the world. He's super sharp, personal and also a genuinely great and charitable person.
Marc Poirer Bio: Marc Poirier co-founded Acquisio in 2003 serving as EVP, Product and Business Development until he became CEO in January 2015. Named one of the top 25 most influential Marketing Technology experts, he’s a frequent speaker at industry events, like SMX and Ad:Tech, and contributes bylines to top marketing publications including Advertising Age, AdWeek and more. Marc studied for a PhD in Cognitive Science at Université de Montréal where he prepared for a Professorship while focusing his research on group differences in cognitive ability. Other areas of his expertise include experimental design and advanced statistics.
Favorite thing about the SEM community? It seems like even though many people could be competing for work, by and large, people support and genuinely like one another. It really is like an extended family.
One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? If you haven't already done it, please stop selling business owners on capturing first position and start selling real business value. While you may see short term success and signup lots of uneducated customers really quickly by selling them number one positions on Google, they'll quickly leave you if you don't make a difference in their success as a business.
Favorite things in general? After hanging out with my soon-to-be 4 year old twins, is fishing. Unfortunately I don't get to fish as much as I'd like to these days.
