Marie Haynes, born in 1973 who joined the industry in 2008, lives with her husband and two young girls in Ottawa, Canada. When I personally think of Marie, I think of an SEO who spends her time helping sites negatively impacted by a Google algorithm. It can be a link penalty or just a site that is doing poorly after some sort of Google update, she is eager and willing to help. Marie is incredibly active on Twitter and social media helping out folks with SEO advice, she speaks at many conferences and spends a lot of time sharing her knowledge, for free, in the various SEO communities.
Andrew Cock-Starkey from Optimisey nominated Marie and he wrote:
Marie's knowledgeable, generous and humble - all things which make not just a great SEO'er but a great person. For me (still in the mere foothills of my SEO journey) I reached to a load of SEOs for help and advice. Some were too busy to reply, others were downright rude - Marie was both busy *and* replied and was really encouraging and bloomin' lovely to boot.
A definite SEO hero of mine.
Marie Haynes Bio: Marie Haynes is someone who is completely obsessed with understanding Google's algorithms. She speaks regularly at conferences like Pubcon and SMX. Her growing company, Marie Haynes Consulting Inc, helps businesses improve the quality of their websites and gain more customers.
Favorite thing about the SEO community? I love how the community shares their knowledge. There is so much to learn in this field and the industry does a good job of testing and sharing.
One piece of advice to the SEOs out there? Google is getting harder to trick and better at recognizing true quality. In order to rank well, it is getting more and more important to show Google that you truly are the best site to answer searcher's queries.
Favorite things in general? I like red and drive a red BMW convertible. :) Outside of SEO my favourite hobby is playing fantasy football.
What you want to be known for in the SEO space? I'm still a little blown away by how much this career has to offer. I was a veterinarian for 13 years and became interested in SEO in 2008. Right from the beginning, I contributed to forums and wrote articles on things that I learned about SEO. My goal is to share my SEO knowledge with others and to be known as someone who understands how to improve the quality of websites so that they perform better on search engines.
You can learn more about Marie at her site and also she wants you to check out her newsletter which promises to keep you up to date on all Google organic changes.
