Today on Google.com and most of Google's worldwide home pages is a special Google logo, aka Google Doodle for Maurice Sendak. Maurice Sendak is most well known for his work on the book "Where the Wild Things Are" and this Google logo represents just that.
Here is the logo Google posted on his 85th birthday.
I should note, the logo is like a movie. It plays through many of the scenes from the book. Here is a video of the logo in action:
Here is the last frame, where all the characters celebrate his 85th birthday:
Maurice Sendak died just over a year ago on May 8, 2012. He died at the age of 83 in Danbury, Connecticut from a stroke while in the hospital. He was born Brooklyn, New York 85 years ago today.
Much of his childhood was haunted of thoughts of his extended family dying in The Holocaust. He was born in Brooklyn, his parents immigrated from Poland before the war.
The New York Times called Sendak "the most important children's book artist of the 20th century."
