Microsoft Forcing Copilot Users To Login But Not For Copilot Search Answers

Microsoft is now forcing all users to log in before using Copilot, but this currently does not apply to Copilot Search answers within Bing Search. When you try to go directly to Copilot, even by clicking on the Copilot button on Bing's home page, you are asked to sign into your account.

This was first spotted by Venkat who covered this at Windows Report but I wanted to get confirmation that this fully changed and how this might impact Bing Search.

Michael Schechter, Corporate Vice President, Search Growth and Experiences at Microsoft, told me, "Copilot Search doesn’t require sign in - I’m focused on Bing, so can’t speak to Copilot’s features." So I followed up with Krishna Madhavan, Principal Product Manager at Microsoft AI, Bing, and he said, "Going forward we are requiring all Copilot users to login."

So if you try to go straight to Copilot at copilot.microsoft.com - you will be asked to log in to your account. But if you do a search at Bing and get a Copilot Search answer, you don't have to log in to see it.

Here is a GIF of these both in action:
