I've been to the Google NYC office a few times and I never noticed if there was a Google sign outside the building or not. Niether did Bradley Horowitz, VP Product, Google+.
It seems Google put up the sign outside of the massive New York building that they own, about a week or two ago.
I am surprised there is not more to the sign but it does seem to blend nicely into the building. I am sure it was a struggle to get approval to put that sign on the historic building.
