Rachel Carson was Pennsylvania born marine biologist and author. She was born 107 years ago today Springdale, Pennsylvania and passed at the age of 56 on April 14, 1964 in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Carson, is best known for Silent Spring, the book widely credited with launching the modern global environmental movement.
President Jimmy Carter awarded Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
