Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.
Search Engine Roundtable Stories:
- DailyMail: 50% Drop In Traffic After Google June 2019 Core Update
Jesus Mendez, the SEO Director at MailOnline, which operators DailyMail.co.uk, has admitted publicly that the site took a massive hit by the June 2019 Google core update. He said the site "lost 50% of daily traffic" because of this Google update. - Google Refine By Tests Additional Refinement Layers
Google has been doing the refine by feature since 2017, or at least testing it since then. But now Google is testing a more detailed and layered version of refine by in their search results. - Can Expandable Content Show In Google Features Snippets
The other day we reported that John Mueller of Google said they won't show content hidden within expandable divs or accordions as snippets in search. Yes, they will index and rank that content but not show it as snippets. But can this type of content be shown in Google's featured snippets? - Bing Recommends You Disavow Links
At SMX Advanced yesterday, Frédéric Dubut from the Bing spam team said that he still recommends that you use the disavow link tool for making sure you don't have bad links hurting your web site. Google says you don't need to use the disavow tool as much these days, but Bing is more for using the tool. - Google: The HTTPS Ranking Signal Measurably Affects Enough Queries
Google's Gary Illyes said that you should not ignore the HTTPS ranking signal. He said "the signal affects enough queries measurably that I wouldn't ignore it." - Google Tests Weird Rotating People Also Ask Feature
Google is testing another method to show the people also ask feature in desktop search. Spotted by Mordy Oberstein, he took a video of his screen where he showed how the people also ask is in this drop down selection tool, and the image rotates when you hover your cursor over it. - Google Bake Shop
Here is a photo of what I think is ice cream with a Google Bake Shop label on it. It seems to have been for the Pixel 3 event. I suspect Google has numerous places within their offices that do bake
