Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.
Search Engine Roundtable Stories:
- Google Search Indexing Issues For Some Publishers
I am seeing numerous reports from publishers that Google is having issues indexing Google News publishers and other sites. Most sites don't seem to be having an issue but there are reports of many publishers having issues. Google said they are going to investigate the issue. - Google Featured Snippets Can Use Descriptions From YouTube
You wouldn't think the content you find on YouTube, in the description section of a video, would be high quality enough for Google to use for featured snippets in search. But you'd be wrong. Google can and does use YouTube descriptions for featured snippets. - Google Search Ignores Redirect Loops
Google's John Mueller said Google will ignore redirect loops for search because redirect loops are broken. A redirect loop is when you have page A point to page B as a redirect and then you also have page B point page A. So you have them both redirecting to each other and it goes on an infinite loop. Browsers cannot handle them and no do search bots want to handle them. - Google's New Developer Doc On JavaScript SEO Basics
A couple weeks ago, Martin Splitt from Google announced on Twitter that he and Lizzi Harvey from Google posted a new developer document on the basics of JavaScript and SEO. The guide describes how Google Search processes JavaScript and the best practices for improving JavaScript web apps for Google Search. - Google Search Results Half Blank & Cut Off Bug Being Worked On
Google confirmed they are working on fixing a bug that is impacting some searchers where the search results will only render partially. It basically looks like a chunk of the search results were cut out or covered in whiteout (if you remember what whiteout is). This issue has been going on three days now and seems to be impacting some Google App searchers. - Google: Shortnames Suspension Bug Should Be Fixed In 48 Hours?
Over the past few weeks or so there has been suspensions in Google My Business and a lot of rumors around why those suspensions have happened. Google has not be exactly clear about the issue but they did say they restored the suspended listings. That was not true and we waited. - Bing Webmaster Tools Speaks At Google Webmaster Conference
