Lily Ray posted a Twitter poll some time ago asking about Google's disavow link tool. The responses to the question shows that SEOs have serious doubt in how effective and useful the disavow link tool is.
Lily's question was "If you have implemented a disavow file in the past couple of years (for a site *not* hit with a manual action for spammy links), answer below."
The responses were:
- 41% - It might have worked?
- 34% - It didn’t do anything
- 19% - I’m confident it worked
- 5% - It hurt my site
The poll had 330+ responses, so it wasn't a super small size.

If you have implemented a disavow file in the past couple of years (for a site *not* hit with a manual action for spammy links), answer below:
(Bonus points: share your story in the comments. What types of links did you disavow?)
And honestly, I am not surprised by the response - are you?
