Excellent social media campaigns will lead to user-generated content. Example, the overwhelming video responses on YouTube to the OraBrush commercial - specifically responses from super YouTubers, which were sending more users to the Orabrush page than their own page or even the New York Times article that they were featured in. What does this all mean? Creating good quality social media campaigns can create a myriad of connections, and for not much money.

You do not have to have a large budget to make a big impact - specifically Facebook and Twitter. There is not a social media silver bullet, just be consistently good and get the big stuff right. Make sure you Like and Follow buttons are easily found. Post often and with good content. The more people interact wit you content the more it will be shared.

With working with Facebook, it is all about the Newsfeed. With Twitter, it is all about he ReTweets. Monitor how you are doing, and incorporate that with you action. Important not to over do it. 4-6 posts a day is plenty from Facebook, and 10-20 on Twitter.

Social Media is Social, don't forget. Interaction is the most important part of success on any type of social media medium. Make your followers feel important.

Free Tools: Hootsuite, TweetDeck - for scheduling posts; Bitly - excellent analytics; AllFacebookStats.com - compare your analytics with your competitors; Monitor.wildfireapp.com - Track follow counts for you and your competitors.

Side note, the first link I posted for OraBrush was done for around $500, but their newer videos cost a lot more, between $3,500-$5,000; however, the first video has been the most successful.

Tools: Google News Auto Complete Feature - Watch what words come after the each word you type (this is also important for all other search engines); Google Insights for Search - Look for options, select "news," the data it will give you will be for news searches, including for the past few years.
