A lot of search news this week at the Search Engine Roundtable. Matt Cutts of Google gave us on the record what Panda 4.0 was. We saw significant drops with press release web sites after 4.0 hit. eBay may have been hit by a manual action and not Panda 4.0. Google denied that a Penguin or other spam related update happened on Monday or Tuesday of this week. Google’s Matt Cutts called it silly that they would penalize a competitor of Nest for comptitive reasons. Google Manual Actions would show for old but still active manual actions. Google launched a new Fetch as Google tool that renders pages and shows blocked resources, but it breaks AJAX URLs. Google confirmed back in 2009 they used one of the anchor texts for a page with two links to the same source. Google said dropping links in forums is spam. Google said not all adult sites are spammy. Google is testing knowledge graphs drop down overlays in AdWords. A law firm is suing an SEO company, not for bad results but for violating Google’s webmaster guidelines. Bing is dropping their webmaster forums, directing people to WebmasterWorld instead. Google released their diversity report, showing they aren’t that diverse. Google is really testing autonomous self driving cars, they look like cartoons. Google’s head of search got a card for a local search, that Google can’t solve every search. That was this week in search from the Search Engine Roundtable.
