Danny Sullivan (@dannysullivan) is currently the Google Public Liaison of Search, which means he helps with communication between the Google Search team and Google users and others (like us). Before that, he was a journalist, but not just any journalist - he helped form the search industry as we know it. He wrote the first guide to how search engines work back in the 1990s, he started the first news site on search, the first conference and has helped grow the industry into what it is today. Danny Sullivan retired from covering that side of things two years ago, and then joined Google.
This interview is about his journey through those years, and the transition to Google. It answers a lot of questions the SEO community had about that transition and his decisions throughout the process.
While many parts of the interview are funny (including the edited intro), we also get into some serious questions and challenges.
I hope you like it.
